Outreach to Our World
When Wistaria members heard about the destruction caused by the Northern California wildfires, our hearts ached and we prayed. When we saw the pictures of the devastation to those living in the wildfires' paths, our souls wept, and we prayed . . . and then we acted.
Coming together, our small Chapter reached out to local vendors and asked them if they would donate goods towards relief efforts if we could provide the necessary transportation to deliver the goods where they were needed. Their answer was, "YES."
We contacted Plumas Crisis Intervention Center in Quincy and focused on the needs they reported from fire victims. While we struggled to find adequate transportation, we remained determined to provide as much as we could to strangers who had lost so much, who, although they were quite a distance away, had become our neighbors.
Wistaria members donated and local vendors stepped up allowing us to fill a 20-foot U-Haul truck with food, household necessities, tents, clothing, and backpacks filled with school supplies for children. Our donations overflowed and another pickup truck was needed to transport the excess items. This is the type of problem that we all should experience.
Members and their families drove over 200 miles on a journey of compassion, and then we unloaded the donations with the assistance of Quincy residents that we enlisted off the street. The plans were in place, the goods were on site, and the distribution dates were set to the get the goods delivered to those who had lost so much to the devastating wildfires. It was a time to reflect on all that we have to be grateful for in our own lives. We are blessed!
Our members have found needs everywhere for food and clothing. Food banks, homeless missions, and non-profit agencies helping the less fortunate members of society have been grateful for the donations that we have been able to provide.
